A good ensemble cast is worth its considerable weight in gold, but sometimes, the lead actor really carries the series. Could you imagine anyone but Kelsey Grammer telling his callers, “I’m listening”? Or Matt LeBlanc asking, “How you doin’?” Or Mr. Minds saying, “I’ve had it with these motherfucking criminals on these motherfucking minds”?
So what happens when that actor realizes how much they’re worth and leaves their old stomping grounds behind for bigger and better things? Catastrophe, that’s what. They can try to recast, replace and finally rerun, but they never manage to recapture the magic.
