It seems like there’s a dirty word in Hollywood these days, and it’s not (just) “brightness” or “rehab.” It’s “original.” With absolutely zero of the 20 top-grossing films of the decade not being based on an existing intellectual property, it’s clear that Hollywood has run screaming from new ideas.
That said, not all new ideas are good. In fact, maybe Hollywood should run faster and much farther sometimes. There’s a lot of weirdos out there, and a lot of them want to (and have) committed their weird little visions to screens big and small.
